Mountain Village Lahic

Lahic is a well-preserved Azerbaijani urban-type settlement that has retained much of its traditional character from previous centuries. It is a state historical and cultural reserve containing monuments and cultural heritage dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. It is located in the Ismailli region of Azerbaijan, on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. The famous tourist route, the "Great Silk Road," passes through the area.

The local people still live and thrive here. Lahic is a famous center of traditional crafts and is particularly renowned for its copperware. Today, tourists can discover more than 40 types of traditional crafts practiced in the village.

Lahic is characterized by its distinctive block-by-block development. Its medieval cobbled streets, squares, and underground drainage systems are more than 1,000 years old. The houses usually do not exceed two floors and are constructed from river stones, often combined with wooden elements. This architectural style is partly attributed to the seismic activity of the area.

Located about three hours' drive from Baku, through a geologically spectacular canyon, the picturesque village of Lahic attracts visitors with its antique cobbled streets, traditional stone houses, souvenir shops, and remarkable craft heritage.

In the past, more than 40 different crafts were practiced in this historic village, which dates back approximately 2,000 years and is now a historical and cultural reserve. These crafts included hat making, leather production, blacksmithing, and carpet weaving. However, Lahic is best known for its beautiful copperware, which was once sold throughout the Caucasus. Today, examples of Lahic copperware can be found in some of the world's leading museums.

The inhabitants of Lahic are traditionally associated with the Tats and speak their own language. The village also has an interesting local cuisine that is well worth trying. The cool mountain air makes traveling here especially appealing during the summer months. In addition to exploring the village, visitors can head into the surrounding mountains along several scenic hiking routes.
