Baku – Shemakha – Gabala – Baku
Azerbaijan has a long and fascinating history, as demonstrated by places such as Shamakhi. It was once the capital of the Shirvan Empire and the seat of the Shirvan Dynasty. These days, Shamakhi is also famous for its winemaking.
While visiting this city, you will have the opportunity to explore the Yeddi Gumbez Mausoleum, whose imposing domes rise mysteriously above an almost silent valley. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of Shamakhi.
Not far away, you will encounter the tomb of Diri Baba. This atmospheric structure is built into the rock, giving the impression of an eagle's nest. As we approach, only the front part is visible, while the other sides are concealed by the rocks from which the structure was carved, creating the impression that the tomb is suspended above the ground.
The monument has two floors. While the lower floor was probably intended for servants, the upper floor, which could be reached by stairs, was likely used as a salon. Whether it was a sacred site or a burial place depends on its interpretation.
We then begin our exploration of Gabala. This beautiful region of the country is known as a tourist paradise. Gabala is located approximately 225 km from Baku, in the Haftaran-Alazan Valley, and is surrounded by the Greater Caucasus Mountains. It is situated on the right bank of the Damiraparan River at an altitude of approximately 900 meters above sea level.
Touching the Lahij Mountains on one side, Gabala is located in the northwest of the country at the foot of Shahdag Mountain.
The largest open-air amusement park in Azerbaijan, Gabaland, is located in Gabala and covers an area of 16 hectares. Visitors can enjoy family-friendly, children's, and extreme attractions, an ice arena, go-karts, sports fields, an XD cinema, convenient parking, and excellent food at restaurants and cafés.
After the excursion, we will return to Baku.
